2010/11 global transport survey
In Monocle this month is the 2010/11 global transport survey, focusing on everything which gets us from A to B and what the future cities might look, and sound like. In the eyes of Monocle and many, the Bicycle is clawing back ownership of the inner city, becoming the preferred chosen method of getting to work and around town. This is no fad, phase or incentive – it is coming from all manner of people on a global scale and is happening now. The article looks at the future where major city roads are turned into ‘Cycle motorways’, and were we ride to safe and secure parking hubs and complete our journeys on trains, trams and eco-busses, or hire bikes once in the city. (as seen in Europe) Sydney has certainly taken to the bicycle in ever increasing numbers, and according to the survey Australia is just behind Japan in 6th place for the top 10 export countries for Taiwanese bicycles.
