Buying Tips
Buying a bicycle should be a pleasant experience, culminating in countless hours of enjoyable cycling on your beloved purchase.
The first step is to decide upon what sort of riding you will be doing. If you see yourself doing long hours in the saddle, then a racing bicycle is probably the best. If you’re after something for cummuting or riding around the park, then a city bike or a hybrid will most likely suit you best. If you see yourself riding the trails and living out a scene from deliverance, then a mountain bike is what you’re after.
One thing of utmost importance is FIT. A bicycle must suit your build, shape and even weight. Never be tempted by price alone, especially if the bike is the wrong size. The right bike for you is the bike that fits best.
BUYING A ROAD BIKE
It’s all about fit, fit and fit. But before all that, you need to decide on two things: Frame material; and Component specs. Do you want carbon fibre, aluminium or chromo? Will it be Campagnolo or Shimano? Ultegra, Durace or Chorus or Record?
The lower your budget the better it is to steer away from full carbon towards an aluminium frame or an alu/carbon mix. At the lower end, a frame material like aluminium is of much greater quality than a low end carbon fibre built frame.
